“A group of Mexicans we polled didn’t know what Cinco de Mayo celebrated, therefore they represent all Mexicans and we can infer that they’re lazy for not knowing the origins of a holiday we actually only celebrate in America for the purpose of reckless drinking. The fact that I also didn’t know what Cinco de Mayo was is only a mere footnote to this story.”

Hesychia:  These guys should really do their research.  Wikipedia puts it more clearly than I can:

While Cinco de Mayo sees limited significance and celebration nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed nationwide in the United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.[8] Cinco de Mayo is not Mexico’s Independence Day,[9] the most important national patriotic holiday in Mexico.[10]

And,

Cinco de Mayo is a regional holiday limited primarily to the state of Puebla. There is some limited recognition of the holiday in other parts of the country.

So for the most part, Cinco De Mayo is not a big Mexican holiday.  Gagh, I fucking hate ignorance.
